We're showcasing what strategies, tools, and courses you'll have access to inside our community on a daily basis, and kicking off our first member-only digital retreat — specifically designed for working professionals, parents, and humans with real-world commitments outside of writing. 
 
At our Open House, we'll share our proven process for writers, The 2024 Writer's Road Map. This will include:

  • How to edit your work and submit it for publication

Saturday, March 9th

Open House, 11am PT, 90-min - Gain access to the our 2024 Writer's Roadmap and learn what every writer needs to know to improve their craft, hone their writing habit, and make their work public.

After the Open House, kickstart your writing habit with our week-long Digital Retreat, specifically designed for working professionals to enjoy an immersive writing experience while keeping up with their other life commitments.

Each day, you'll have opportunities to invest in your writing, with multiple sessions per day specially designed to help you start, edit, finish a piece of writing. You'll be given the tools, structure and guidance to publish a short story, poem or essay by the end of the retreat.

Sunday, March 10th - Day 1

  • 11am PT - New Member Orientation with Claire Giovino

    We want to make sure you're getting everything you can out of the Digital Retreat, but understand navigating a new platform can feel overwhelming. Join us to ask any questions you have about the retreat, how to engage with the community, and get matched with a writing partner!

  • 1pm PT - Wordsmith Wellness with Jacob Nordby

    Are you nourishing your creative spirit? Writers are whole creatures and what affects our minds, bodies, and spirits also affects our writing. This gathering is an interactive blend of guided meditation, open sharing and group work. You can expect a bit of psychology and neuroscience, soulful exploration, and practical guidance.

Monday, March 11th - Day 2

  • 1pm PT - Silent Writing

    Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group. 

  • 5pm PT - All Things Memoir with Reema Zaman

    Have you always wanted to write a memoir, or are you working on a memoir currently? In this brand new Writing Room course, we'll explore the ins and outs of how to write a memoir. We'll start by watching the first lesson of as a cohort, work through the assigned writing task, and finish with a discussion of what we learned with the teacher, Reema Zaman. 

Tuesday, March 12th - Day 3

  • 9am PT - Silent Writing

    Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group.

  • 4pm PT - Substack 101 with Jess Janz

    Join poet and Substack expert Jess Janz for an introduction to Substack, how it helps build your readership, how to choose a theme, posting schedule, and more. Bring your questions, we'll end the workshop with a live Q&A!

Wednesday, March 13th - Day 4

  • 1pm PT - Silent Writing

    Join Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group. 

  • 4pm PT - Living The Artist's Way with Julia Cameron

    Would you like to include Julia Cameron in your list of personal writing mentors? Join us for this exclusive workshop on living the artist's way. You'll learn how to dismantle perfectionism, build a relationship with your inner critic, and enhance your creative fl0w. Q&A included!

  • 6pm PT - Stuckness 101 With Anne Lamott

    Join us to hear how Anne overcomes that feeling of stuckness in her writing, and get your questions answered. We'll go over exactly where that feeling of stuckness comes from and how to write through it. Get your questions answered in real time and explore specialized writing prompts with the rest of your cohort.

Thursday, March 14th - Day 5

  • 9am & 1pm PT - Silent Writing

    Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group. 

  • 1pm PT - Salon Social with Jacob Nordby

    Ready to meet other members and share how the retreat has been going for you so far? Join us for an open social in the Salon to meet other members who are working on similar projects, share your wins and ask for support.

  • 4pm PT - Live Editing with Jake Morrissey

    In this Industry Expert series, submit a current summary of your piece for a Penguin editor to review. You'll learn what industry expert Jake Morrissey looks for when he accepts new pieces of work, and get honest feedback on your concept and story.

Friday, March 15th - Day 6

  • 7am PT - Silent Writing

    Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group. 

  • 12pm PT - Feedback Friday with Carly Vair

    Would you like to get outside eyes on your writing for a dedicated block of time? Are you getting closer to publishing a piece, but would like to elevate your work to the next level? Feedback is critical for writers at every level, join us to have your piece reviewed by other members.

Saturday, March 16th - Day 7

  • 12pm PT - Silent Writing

    Join your fellow Writing Room members for a focused session of silent writing. We'll start by checking in, setting our intention, writing silently for a designated period of time then debrief together as a group. 

  • 4pm PT - Critique Circle with Reema Zaman

    Submit your writing to be reviewed by memoirist Reema Zaman. Reema specializes in memoir, but all genres are welcome! Include your genre, one-paragraph summary of your piece, and the feedback you'd like to receive. 2000 word count limit, we'll work through as many pieces as we have time for! 

  • 5pm PT - Open Mic with Claire Giovino

    It's time to share your work! Join us to be seen and heard by other members. Everyone will be given a designated time to share their writing and we'll share our favorites parts about your piece as a group.

Sunday, March 17th - Day 8

  • 11am PT - Submission Sunday with Claire Giovino

    Have you been wanting to submit your essay, poetry or short story for publication, but feel overwhelmed by the process? Or do you have a pile of unfinished query letters sitting in your drafts folder? Let's press send together! Join us as we hit send, submit or publish on a piece of work.

     

  • 1pm PT - Victory Lap with Sam Lamott

    You've successfully completed a full week focused on your writing — it's time to celebrate! Join your fellow members to share your wins and epiphanies from the past week so we can lift each other up.

All are welcome to join the Open House: 2024 Writers Roadmap, which will lead us into our week-long Digital Retreat, specifically structured to help you dive back into your writing craft. You'll have all the resources to start, edit, finish, and publish a short story, poem, or essay.
