Day One: The Invitation

Featuring Anne Lamott, Gay Hendrix, Claire Giovino

Step through our doors and be transported to a whole new world of writing as you know it. There’s no way to truly capture the energy of being amongst hundreds of writers from every corner of the globe gathering to improve their craft. Day one is about setting ourselves up for the days to come, building a sacred camp together where transformation can occur, and leaving behind what is no longer serving us for our journey ahead.

Day Two: The Threshold

By Day Two you will have realized this is not a spectator event, and now find yourself middle of a new adventure. We call day two the threshold, a specially crafted series of workshops, exercises, and challenges meant to bring out your unique creative genius and reclaim the courageous hero within you that has given you the inner call to write the story of your life. Day two is about answering the call, stepping on the path, and by the end of the day crossing the threshold into a new story of your life. You have to hike up the mountain to truly appreciate the summit, and that is what the threshold is all about.

Day Three: The Initiation

Featuring Aname Tobedetermined

We call Day Three The Initiation, and we dont use that word lightly. The role of the initiation is to create a change that cannot be undone. Our workshops and ceremonies on day three are designed to help you honor the unique talents, circumstances, and calling youve been given as a storyteller, and stepping into the writer thats been waiting for you to be. We will not be saying goodbye and dreading going back to our normal lives, we’ll be resupplied, reinvigorated, and excited for the real journey ahead, Telling the story of our life.

Frequently Asked Questions

The in-person retreat takes place in the heart of Hollywood at the Loews Hollywood Hotel on October 25-27th. Full instructions for finding this location will be emailed after registration.

The live broadcast of all general sessions can be accessed from wherever you are via Zoom technology.
You’ll immediately receive a payment confirmation email and a separate email with instructions, depending upon whether you registered for the in-person or virtual experience.

Please be sure that you have used your best email AND check your spam or Promotions folder if you don’t immediately receive your confirmation and instructions. Sometimes it can take a few minutes for the email to arrive.

If you don’t find your confirmation, don’t panic! We’ll help you get it resolved and make sure that you can attend. You can send a message through the Support form (below) or emails us at support@awritingroom.com and we’ll respond as quickly as possible.

It’s very important that you use your best email address as this is how we will communicate before, during, and after the retreat with your instructions, links, and the follow-up to provide your access to the video replays.

Each live session will be recorded and all registered guests will be given full access to the video replays after the event has ended.

We welcome our friends from all time zones and regions of the world and will seek to offer ways for you to connect as often as possible.

Almost any smartphone, PC, or tablet will work. The membership workshops and online sessions are delivered via Zoom and Youtube. Video replays can be viewed on any computer or mobile device.
All workshops will be recorded and made available for streaming replay after the event has ended.

For all live events (both virtual or in-person tickets), we ask that you plan carefully, verify your availability and check your calendar before purchasing.

We do not offer refunds for any virtual or in-person tickets, as our agreements with the speakers and presenters rely on strong attendance.

If you need to convert your in-person ticket to a virtual ticket, you can do so up to 60 days before the event begins and we will credit you back the difference. Once we are within 60 of the retreat's start date, no refunds or credits can be issued.

For physical products (such as books, journals, etc.), we offer full money-back refunds if the product is returned in sale-able condition within 30 days of purchase.
Yes! When you go through the registration process, please use your gift recipient’s email address so that they will receive instructions.

Our retreat is being hosted at the gorgeous Loews Hollywood Hotel, so we recommend booking your hotel at Loews.

Upon registration, we will email you with links and information on recommended accommodation. You are also free to arrange your own lodging with AirBnB or local hotels that best suit your needs and budget.

Writers Rising is our annual writing retreat, a large-scale event at a dedicated venue. This event is separate from our online Writing Room membership and offered publicly to both members and non-members, however Writing Room members receive special discounts on all annual retreats.
